Elastic Structure
Elastic fabric and staples 3,30 x 6,60 x 3,30 m 2014 The work reflects the idea that there will always be something incomprehensible about nature. explores symmetry while provoking chaos and organic movement This work grows from the study and interpretation of the Symmetry Groups or Wallpaper Groups, which are mathematical classifications for grouping patterns and ornamental designs. There are 17 Wallpaper Groups, a finite number to classify something that is seemingly infinite. Using strips of elastic fabric and staples, a grid is drawn on a wall from which, lines of fabric project onto a perpendicular surface creating a geometric design. Being released from the tension, the remaining strips fall to the floor forming a mass of entangled fabric. This piece is ephemeral.
